Good News & Bad News
Hi Folks:
Well first the bad news. Ford has announced the other day, that they are discontinuing the Mercury brand. I was pretty bummed out about that, because I allways had a special relationship with Mercury as you all have read in past postings. Ford, and parcitularly Mercury has allways been my favorite brand of car.
The GOOG NEWS, however, is that I found a great deal on a brand new, that's 2010, Mercury Milan, and if all goes well, I will be posting photos on this web site around the 19th or 20th of the month. I guess some things were not meant to last for ever. Cars and the status derived from owning them was big in the 20th Century. Most of my life wa lived then, so I am pretty much a child of the 20th. The 21st Century is going to have it's own brand of status cymbols, and it's own culture and traditions right now we are in the transition from 20th century to 21st century. It's sad to see the automotive era and all those icons come to an end within my life time, but I would not be suprised if some one in his late 80s has just as fond memories of his father's Hubmobile, Packard or Pierce Arrow. I know a lot of people wer bummed out when GM discontinued Oldsmobile, and a few years later, discontinued Pontiac. Pontiac, by the way was my favorite GM brand.
Oh well, I am going to really enjoy my new Mercury when I get it. I can't wait to post photos of it.

Try an F-150 and I bet that would change...the only bad thing is the gas mileage but it is a beast of a truck and pulls my boat nicely...I have driven Chevy's, Toyotas, Nissan and GMC and they were all nice...but don't even compare to my F-150. Sorry...

I wish Ford would bring back the Bronco .
I use a 94 XLT around the property, it's a well mannered beast. The 5 liter V8 freaking rocks!

Well I have no interests in Ford cars or trucks at all. I do like GMC, but it's sucked they're out of business. I missed Pontaic Firebird.
I'm going to get Cadillac 2010, but don't know yet.

Re: Good News & Bad News
I never heard of a POS. Is that an abreviation for something? The Mercurys I'm familair with are the Comuter, Park Lane, Monterey, Montego, Turnpike Cruiser, Comet (older models) Grand Marquis, Milan, Mountaineer, Mariner, Sabel, (Newer Models." But I never heard of a POS.
As for your expierence with Ford, I had a very simular experience with Toyota back in the 80s. I bought an 84 Toyota pickp-up. It ran great, but I had all kinds of problems finding parts. The heater cable on that truck broke on the coldest day of the year, and my dealer gave me no end of grief on finding a replacement. For as long as I drove that truck, I had to reach under the dash board and open the heater valve by hand. Then on the hottest day of the year, when we had that horible heat wave in the Summer of 88, the blower motor went oug. I had to wait 3 weeks for a replacement, and it cost almost 100 bucks. And that's with me doing the instalation myself.
I was wondering if it was your Ford dealer, and not the Ford company who jerked you around, because I had nothing but good service from all of my Ford products. In fact, I drove Chevys, Toyotas, Dogges, a Datsun, a Jeep, a Pontiac, and even a Suziki Samari, and the two Ford F-150s that I owned were by far the best two trucks I ever owned. all though that Dodge Ram that I had could certainly give them a run for the money. But I can't wait for my new Mercury Milan. It's sort of like comming home after a long absence from my family.
By the way, I did test drive other models. I test drove a Ford Fusion, which is basicaly the same car as the Milan, only with different grill work, and name. The engine and drive train are identical. I also test drove two Volkswagen Jettas, a deisel and a 5 cyl gas model. I test drove a Chevy Malibu, and I just liked the Mercury the best. I also get one hell of a deal to boot. Everything will be finalized on the 19th, I hope.
iHaunt, I woudl love to see a pic of your new Caddy when you get it.

I have a Chevy Venture and have had problem after problem with it. It's nice but nice doesn't get you anywhere if it keeps breaking. (Just had it repaired so we'll see how long it lasts). At this point I would rather have an ugly beater that's reliable.

Re: Good News & Bad News
I have to say, the two most unreliable and frustrating cars I ever owned was my 71 Datsun 12oo, and my 74 Ford Galazie 500. In the case of the Ford, however, my mom drove that car 50 miles with no oil in the oil pan, with the AIR CONDITIONING ON, and fried two of the valvs. That car never ran right again after that. It was my dad's car before I took it off his hands. You should have seen the seisure he had when he heard what mom did to his car. At any rate, that car had some really wierd quirks. You had to be darn sure the battery was charged, and that the choke was side opened, otherwise you would never get it started. Like the Datsun, there was no startingit in sub zero weather, no starting when it was wet, and some times it wouldn't start no matter what I did. I can't blame Ford, but the Datsun was another story.
I had a 69 Chevy Caprice before I got the Ford, and that Cevy was a great running car, even though it looked like I drove it out of a junk yard.

Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!
