Tales of the Haunted Jobsite
Aha! Well, in addition to those other things I do, I occasionally do restoration work on historic buildings, and just recently started doing some stuff in a building in Long Beach. This building, previously a hotel in which Howard Hughes stayed occasionally, has been around since the 1920's. And the first thing I thought when I set foot inside the place? "This building has haunted written all over it!" And, it really does. It is probably the creepiest functioning building I have ever been in. Stay tuned, and I'll tell you more and post some pictures.

Okay, now, first of all...just to get it out of the way: No ghosts seen! At least, not by me. No filmy, white-sheeted, vaporous or otherwise. And no strange noises heard.
But the place is creepy.
I take the elevator up to the top and work on the gargoyles...they want to put more gargoyles on the building! So I am in the process of making the gargoyles. They like the ones they already have, they just want a few more of them. There are four different ones:
There is a gryphon-like one--my favorite! It is ugly, and has a batlike head and the body of an eagle, more or less.
Then, there is a bear! It is holding a shield or a tablet of some kind. It looks sad or lonely. Definitely not smiling!
Then there is an eagle, enthusiastic and powerful. Smiling!
And then there is a cat--perhaps a panther. Ready to strike and looking fierce. A bit serious, as some cats are.
INSIDE the building, the hallways are dimly lit. There are strange framed photos hanging in the hallways. I see one that is a picture of a big spider in a web. Who would want that hanging in their apartment building? Then there is a photo of the gryphon gargoyle. There are paintings too--none reproductions, they are all originals, and some look more than a hundred years old. And there are other things...a strange sitting room like area with antique furniture and an old grandfather clock. The staircases are shadowy.
When I walk in the hallways, I definitely expect to see something odd, always.
The workers tell me that they hear strange stories, especially about the upper floors. There are ghosts in the building, they say. And I believe this, sure, why not? But when I ask what they have heard, they won't tell me. "Oh, you'll hear about it," they say cryptically.
