I usually extend the season by growing all of my own pumpkins. It's cool not to have to go out and buy pumpkins at 5-10 dollars a peice and always it motivates other ideas for the hallowween season throughout the year.

This year I have been doing a lot of paper mache pumpkins, and I have been using the ones that I have grown as forms. I will have to post some pictures they are waterproofed with urethane after they are carved and it's strange how real they look after they are finished. I figured I would be able to recycle them for a few years.

Bucky is super cool, I need to come up with something, I have one inside that just this past year I leave out year around inside he is a little pumpkin man. A craft looking one I bought a wal-mart. Hes been up for a year now. An I plan on leaving him right in the side of the tv so when winter comes he can cheer me up with the spirit.

One day, a few years back, some holy rollers came to the door. Now I majored in Philosophy (I call it "my BA in BS"), so even though I'm an atheist, I love a good theological discussion. We had an excellent debate, agreeing to disagree in the end, but before they left, they asked if they could get a picture with Bucky. I of course said "Sure!" One opened up his Bible, and posed next to Bucky as though he were showing him a particularly interesting passage, and the other snapped a picture. A fun time was had by all. I only wish I'd thought to ask them to email me a copy.
Next year, I'm getting serious about a pumpkin patch.

I look at the Halloween season in five stages.
There's the pre-season which starts in late July to early August. That's when I start going into stores hoping to find the first hint of Halloween.
Then there's the next phase where decorations are on store shelves, but people (not those of us who post here, of course) still think it's too early.
After that comes the third stage. That's when even casual fans of the holiday start really getting into the mood. I think that's where we are right now, or very close. Then comes the full blown countdown. Decorations on display inside and out, haunted houses and trails, hay rides, horror movies on all the time, etc,. After that comes the November 1st let down. I deal with my sorrow by having fun raiding the stores for their discounted Halloween stuff.
Last year I got things for three to five dollars that had once been priced over twenty bucks. Nothing came totally diminish the sadness of the holiday being over, but shopping helps.
