Houston, we have ignition!

So I sowed the seed on 04/26/2011 and today, eight days later, the first jack-o-lantern pumpkin pas germinated:

(Unrelated) My mammoth sunflowers also germinated today:

Bad news, good news. The mocking birds pecked a lot of the seedlings. However, it seemed like the seedlings were resilient enough to survive. I also built temporary cages for each hill until they get big enough and the birds leave them alone. You can see the pecked and sometimes, torn off cotyledons....

Is anyone else growing pumpkins? I want to see pictures of yours progressing too!

^LOL, never seen that one before. =D

I fed the pumpkins et al. this last Saturday with some liquid fertilizer. They are getting noticeably bigger. Please, if any of you are growing, please post some pics. I want to see your progress.

I planted mine 4 days ago, we'll see what happens, if I can actually grow one here in the desert.

I planted mine a couple weeks ago along with watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, onions, peppers and brussel sprouts...we will see how they do. I hope well.

Well, as I said on another threat, I am in the process of buying a new motorcycle, so I'll probably be too busy cruising around on it to grow pumpkins this year. This year I decided to take a hiatus from the pumpkin patch, regroup, and try to figure out a way to keep the critters at bay, and then make another attempt next year.

Everything is coming along really nicely... much better than I orginally thought they would. I've got vines starting to grow. =)

Things went a little downhill because of the extreme heat. However, I have some squash, pumpkins, and gourds coming along.
