Mike used to say that he would get school off in Catholic school for Halloween, or if not Halloween, the day after (All Saints' Day), as it is a "Holy Day of Obligation" in the Catholic church.
I have never had the day off, nor has anyone in my family, but since I am a stay-at-home mom, I have plenty of time to prepare for the big night. It is a super-busy time of year, however. October is mid-semester for academics, which everyone in my family is, in one way or another. My husband's birthday is Oct. 29, and our wedding anniversary is the 24th. It seems I always plan to do more and cook more, etc., than I ever really get around to.

What has happened to Mike? He seems to have been MIA since the spring time...and he's a year rounder

I've been asking the same. I know he has health problems. Hope he's all right.

I've tried to get ahold of him with no response, I hope all is well too.
I always took off for Halloween until I started working at an awesome place that let us dress up and has a pumpkin carving contest, I miss that place now, they laid me off 4 years ago, I still temp for them now and then, oh well.

I suppose that dia de los muertos is an appropriate time as any for this...
I'm giving my user & pass to a trusted relative in the event that I cross the finish line before y'all, and that HDCOM enjoys a long and happy presence.
I take some comfort in your fellowship and would be remiss if i failed to leave a token of my appreciation.
That being said, I now stand ready to accept jibes and commentary from the usual suspects.
...and I trust Mike is well.

I was wondering that myself about Mike AKA Pumpkin Man. Where has he been? Usually I'm sure he'd be lurking about the forum at Halloween time and we hadn't seen him around in forever. I hope he's alright.
As far as taking the week off, I don't usually take the week off no. I think I've asked for the day off before though but that's about it.

Mike stopped posting immediately after he retired last spring. I know he had said he had plans, like haunted road trips he wanted to take. He also used to talk about relocating to another state. Sometimes he mentioned the Southwest, where it is warmer than Illinois, and sometimes he mentioned East Tennessee, where he has cousins. I choose to believe that he has been very busy with positive life changes, and that he will surprise us all by popping back in here sometime to tell us about them.
If he moved into some rural area, I suppose it is possible that he doesn't have internet at his house.

You're probably right. Sometimes IRL can take over quite a bit. Mike probably is just busy, but I know he's had health problems in the past. Poor guy. And yes internet can be an issue, especially in more rural areas. We don't have a lot of cell phone options around where we live for one thing.
I know I disappeared for several years before coming back here. I suppose for me I'm just excited since now that I live down South instead of with my Grandma, I have more freedom to decorate.

Depending on what I have going on and / or prepping for. I've taken the week off in the past and / or the 31st.
