What's your top most favorite thing about Halloween?

Post by Laurie Strode » Thu Oct 04, 2007 10:50 am

With this group of dedicated Halloween lovers, I think it will be interesting to see if we can all pick just one. :D Of course, there are many reasons why we love it, but what brings the MOST joy to y'all every season? Is it the trick-or-treaters coming to your door, seeing your neighbors decorated for Halloween, the horror movie marathons? Maybe it's getting to dress in costume, or pumpkin carving, or just the whole ambience of Halloween night...

For me it's our children's enjoyment of the holiday..their fun with wearing costumes, their excitement of going door to door for candy, their laughs (while eating candy) at seeing Garfield and Odie's cover blown with the pirate ghosts after Odie sneezes in the cupboard or when the World War I flying ace is shaking his fist at the Red Baron, or when they use Charlie Brown's head for a pumpkin model. My kids are my life and my greatest loves, and for 4 years they've been my favorite aspect of our holiday. :D

(But before their time, I would've told you guys it was the pumpkin carving.)

Sharing the magic of transformation, sidewalk candy treasure hunts, and that chill on the back of your neck with my children.

My kids are still too young (3, 2, & 5 months) to really appreciate the Holiday, so for me its finding and carving the perfect pumpkin, lighting it up with a real candle and just watching it flicker in the darkness that is Halloween night.
Because once you cross that bridge, my friend, the ghost is through, his power ends.

Good point there, HH, our boys were too young that 1st year to really enjoy it, they were still in what one of my girlfriends would call 'that vegetable stage', but they sure did look cute in their little footed pumpkin onesies and caps. :D Year two was better, they enjoyed a walk down our Broad St. when the businesses gave out candy...but they were down on the scene last season.

(And I hear ya on the real candles, they're the only ones worth having..although I've burnt many a pumpkin lid with them, poor things!)

Pumpkin carving for me also. Every year we have a pumpkin carving party. All my kids and their friends look forward to it each year.

Costuming, for sure. I think I'm a frustrated actor, cause I take any opportunity to play "dress up". And makeup, too. I LOVE the fact that for that time I am someone else, a whole different persona. And I get such a kick out of seeing evryone else's costumes, too.

DECORATING! to me theres nothing like the anticiaption of pulling all the boxes out of the attic and going through all off the wonderful things!! of course that is always accopanied with odd stares from neighbors and guests that come to my house being its normally way too early for some to even be thinking of october!

Jack O lanterns, halloween decor shopping, cardboard halloween cut-outs that remind me of Halloween as a child...and the anticipation of Halloween night when kids cannot wait to go door to door getting their treats!

To make today's children as happy and thrilled about Halloween as I was — that's the most satisfying thing to me now.

I can't pick just one thing... I like everything about Halloween, which is odd since I found out my dad HATES Halloween not long ago. Apparently, he hid it well. I wonder why.....

At the top of my "things I love" list would be:
Seeing kids' faces when you hand them something "cool"
Carving P-kins
Decorating
Dressing up
and, of course, scaring the heebie-jeebies out of the "tough guys"

Sharing my Love, enjoyment & excitement of the Halloween Season with everyone I come across. Friends, strangers, My Halloween Family, store tellers, everyone in my community I can reach. Oh and of course since I spend a great deal of time in hospitals, Labs, Doctor Offices, well I usually buy them all something little like Halloween candies, and something festive to spruce up their decor surroundings, like mini pumpkins, a mini plush black kitty, an orniment of some kind.
Heck, I just love to spread the Halloween spirit everywhere I can. Of course in a Respectful and enlighting way that reflects my knowledge of that particular person or environment.

To me, it's an opportunity to give back to my friends. Give them some spooky fun and it sort of expected around Halloween. It's a time to let that inner child out and just have some fun.

when i make something and know it is going to WORK..I'm creating paper mache versions of the eggs from Alien, complete with glowing interior beneath cracked open shells, and it started to come together today...nothing like that feeling when it starts to click.
Future events such as these will effect you in the future

Yeah. You get a real sense of accomplishment when something comes together perfectly. I don't seem to get much of that. But I haven't done much with starting from complete scratch and design something from the most basic materials.

I just put things together that already exist, add a spit & a promise and it works.
