I guess we are lucky - we don't have an imposed curfew here, although that also has its drawbacks.. TOTing isn't very popular here, although when I lived in the suburbs with my parents, we used to get a fair amount of older teens knocking on our door (not in costume) TOTing, even if it was late and the lights were off. If you didn't give them something, they would throw eggs at your house

Because over here in the UK, TOTing isn't a tradition that people grow up with, parents don't seem to want to take the time to teach their children the values that go alongside the activity - they don't lay down the moral ground for their children to TOT respectfully and because of that, TOTers get a bad reputation, and more and more households shun them. Or people like my dad consider it "begging" and refuse to take part in it.

It's such a shame
