No Trick or Treat'ers

Post by One Eye'd Jack » Sun Oct 21, 2007 4:07 pm

Well, as a lot of you know, I've been steeped in this big moving thing and we are sooo NOWHERE close to being settled. We really LOVE the new place. The back deck is HUGE and the view is great.
We're now livng in one of the safest zip codes in the Portland Metro area not to mention that we live right across the street from the Police station.

West linn is a very hoity-toity neighborhood and as I like to say to the Mrs., "We're living on the edge of WEALTHY!"
Everyone seems to be great but the kids are a bit spoiled.

This is what I'm talking about.........

I think we're really going to like it here a lot but I am saddened that it's pretty safe to say TOT'ers won't be venturing over the bridge...

Maybe that's ok. If we DID we might just end up with THIS.....

No TOT kids are coming to your place? Well, maybe you want to think about moving to the another place around the neighborhood. Lucky me, I live near the neighbors where we have many TOTs every year!

Hey OEJ,

No TOTers are coming to my place either :( We live in an apartment block and we're hidden from the road so there's not even a remote chance of getting a costumed kiddie visitor.. *sigh*

Rent a flat bed truck, put your family on the back, drive around where the trick-or-treaters are, and throw candy at them!

OEJ, that first picture made me laugh.

Where on earth did you get the killer shirley temple pic from?

It's from the Shirley Temple movie Baby Take a Bow (1934). Shirley is quite amusing when wielding a large knife for the purpose of freeing a man her father has tied up in their living room. She doesn't realize that he's a thief, or that he has no qualms about hurting her or her father. She thinks he's a part of the elaborate games that she and her dad often play.

Awww OEJ, I'm so sorry to here that the TOT's are not able to safely get to your place, but just maybe a few will find there way.
BY the way, if it makes you feel any better, we've been living in our place where we are now since May of 2005, and we are no where near being settled either, hell I still don't even have most of my clothes unapacked, and every room is still not completley unpacked, I hate it. SO I can really feel for you.

I think, all you have to do is light up the side of the house that faces the highway. The ToT's will HAVE to see it, then they'll get curious and come across the bridge to check it out.

Have you seen those fans with a super long wind sock over them? They bend and kink and "dance" around? Maybe if you can create one or two of those, it might catch the eye. Maybe some sort of projection on the exterior wall?

hmm, don't give up hope just yet! You might be surprised, so ya better be ready. Over there to the right, the lakeside properties, aren't there about 15-20 houses there? Surely they have some TOT'ers.
I'd still hang up lights or something, ya gotsta!

Thanks for all your kind thoughts and inspiration, people... I WILL put stuff up outside and I WILL be prepared, just in case!

OH, and Cad.... I can see how you'd think that about that pic but you see, It's actually a scene from a very little known movie from the same time period, called 'Baby Take a Head Off'.
I really should have thought about that 'cuz the scenes are so similar. Look.....
Scene from 'Baby Take A Bow'

And the scene from 'Baby Take a Head Off' (1935)

It's amazing, I know!
I would show you caps from the scenes that follow but they're really much too gruesome for even THIS crowd.

BRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Have you tried to get in touch with the police department? Maybe you can work out some kind of deal with them that will bring kids to their office and have them visit your house too?

It's a bit late to work out something this year, but in the following years, you could gradually build a reputation with working with the police dept. and do a haunt. I mean, if you look at the image of the neighborhood, there's a HUGE piece of property with just a few trees on it, right behind you. Might be worth while to take advantage of the space and do some sort of charity/graveyard thing there.

I'd see if the police dept. would work with you as a sponsor and "graveyard fence" that property. And set up something there. I noticed that there is a fairly busy street right there. Is it like a main entrance to the subdivision? What a great location! The police department is right there, you're right next door, there's a lot of traffic that people can see that something's going on in that lot for Halloween. It's right next to a freeway, (so it's stupid easy to get to.) There's a lot of space to park. The police dept. could close the street/bridge there, (I do see another bridge just a block down,) And the "closed" bridge could be used for parking and foot traffic.

How can you not see the opportunity to do something huge for the community and charity?
Oh, Riiiight... The "One Eye" thing...
